APRS Radios

Kenwood TH-D7

The first Radio I purchased for APRS is the Kenwood TH-D7, A excellent handheld, & a great starter into the APRS World.

The Radio has a Output power of around 6w when pluged into a 13.8v power supply. You can operate on APRS while using the Radio for voice on 70cms.
The main disadvantage I found with the radio is that with the power output of only 6w, it did not work too well out in the country, where there are no digi's.
For a long time i plugged a external Linear into it.The Radio also operates with a internal TNC, so you can plug it into a normal computer, & use either 1200/9600 Packet.

Kenwood TM-D700E Mobile Radio

After working with the TH-D7 I had to save & buy the big brother!
This Radio has far more features than the TH-D7, & the other advantage is 50w with APRS, much better! This is the best mobile Radio i have ever used - and often use APRS and voice at the same time without too many problems.

This Radio is now discontinued
